Paul’s Quest – Our History
Hi, I’m Paul Rothfuss, Owner/Manager of All PlayStable. I grew up in Williamsport, PA where my family had a farm and we raised Thoroughbreds and Holstein cattle. I’ve been involved with Thoroughbred horses for many decades, and I’ve found Thoroughbred horse racing to be the most exciting, fascinating sport in all the world.
When my Dad was a child he was the ‘horse boy’ on the farm where he grew up, this at the turn of the Nineteenth Century. He loved horses, and while attending the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, he discovered Pimlico. From that day on it was Thoroughbreds for Dr. P. A. Rothfuss!
I grew up with Thoroughbreds, and I’ve loved them and studied them all my life. I’ve owned and raced some nice horses, and I can tell you that owning race horses is an amazing experience, one that I’ve always wanted to be able to share with lots of folks just like you. I’m convinced that if you participate as an owner of a Thoroughbred race horse, with all of it’s highs and lows, you will learn to love it as much as I. So I’ve made that my Quest. I’m on a mission to introduce Thoroughbred ownership to as many people as I can find.
Over the years I’ve met many people who’ve said they’d like to participate in Thoroughbred racing as owners, and there are four reasons why they don’t. One, they believe they can’t afford it. Two, because they don’t feel they know enough about it they fear they’ll be taken advantage of or get ‘ripped off.’ Three, they wouldn’t know how to go about it. And four, no one ever asked. Very legitimate reasons to be apprehensive.

So I set out to create a blueprint that would answer those objections, allay people’s fears, and make them feel comfortable with Thoroughbred ownership.
The blueprint became All Play Stable.

Some History
I started learning about Thoroughbreds at age three while sitting on the arm of my Dad’s easy chair. Dad would page through the Stud Book and I would listen with rapt attention as he told the stories and described the exploits of the many Champions pictured there. Man ‘O War, Gallant Fox, Seabiscuit, Hyperion (GB), Omaha, War Admiral, Whirlaway…the list goes on and on.
I saw my first race on Nov. 4, 1947. Dad’s colt, Gain ‘A Foot, won at Pimlico. I made my own $2 bet that day. I won $32 and got my picture taken in the winners’ circle with Jockey Al Schmidl (pictured above!) A Day of Days!
It’s been quite a ride from 1947 to 2010. Along the way we put together a credible record with past racing partnerships, and today we deeply believe that the development of the All Play Stable Method will take all of us to the Winners Circle many times in the future.
It’s our sincere hope that you’ll decide to join us and share in the Fun and Excitement!
Thank you kindly for your interest in All Play Stable.
Paul H. Rothfuss
