FAQ - Mares

Where do you get your mares?

Most often we buy our mares at public auction, but occasionally we do purchase mares privately.

Who decides what mares you buy?

The All Play Team makes those decisions. Our process begins with a study of pedigrees and race records. A fter that we go to the sales or a farm, look over those mares selected, choose the ones that we might want to own, decide how much we’ll pay, and see if we can buy them.

How much do you pay for the mares?

We’re willing to pay up to $57,000, and sometimes a bit more.

You mentioned an upside on the mares when you get a Big Horse. Can I be a part of that?

Yes.  All Play Stable offers opportunities for participation in our breeding and broodmare partnerships.  If you have interest please be assured that we want to discuss this with you.  However, this is a side of the Thoroughbred business that is quite different from Racing Partnerships.

As is our policy, every potential Broodmare Partner will receive all pertinent information – anything and everything that they may require in order to be comfortable as a Partner with us. But horses are animals and raising them is ‘farming,’ so to the uninitiated, it’s just ‘different’ enough to be open for unrealizable expectations and/or wide misunderstandings that always lead to great unpleasantness.

Your friendship and goodwill is worth far more to us than your investment, which is why we require in-depth discussions and in-person meetings with everyone who wishes to invest in our broodmare partnerships.

I find the subject of breeding Thoroughbred horses ever-fascinating and look forward to talking with you about it. In the meantime, you can learn a lot more about our approach to this by reading “Breeding Thoroughbreds,” which you will find here on our website.

If you wish to discuss this further please feel free to contact me at your convenience.  I thank you for your interest in All Play Stable.
