Who are the Principals of All Play Stable?

Paul Rothfuss, Robin Fiester, and Sara Dunham.  For more info please visit The All Play Team.”

What do your shares cost?

From $1,175 to $5,500.

Can I purchase a half-share?

In most cases, yes.

What about ongoing expenses?

In a two-horse, sixteen-share partnership, ongoing expenses average $265 per-share per-month: less when the horses are turned out on a farm, more when at the track, and somewhere in between when at a training center.  Horse earnings (impossible to estimate) would reduce or perhaps eliminate the need for further support from Partners.  Our estimates include no offset for earnings.

What does this cover?

But for a catastrophic veterinary event it covers every expense incurred in caring for and managing the horses.

Do you mark-up expenses?

Never.

Why two horses in a partnership?

I. Racing is a bit of a Numbers Game.  More horses increases your chances for success by a factor far greater than the simple increase in the number of your horses.

II. We would never invest our own money in just one horse, so we cannot in good conscience encourage our Members to do so.

Will I profit from my investment?

Just like “investing” in a boat, investing in race horses is first and foremost an investment in Fun & Excitement.  Strictly from that point of view, yes, there’s a good chance that you will “profit.”

If we’re fortunate enough to develop a really good horse, the return on your money investment will be awesome.  But you must never count on this!

Important note:  Please, never anticipate a money profit from any investment in any race horse, whether with All Play Stable or anyone else.

Are funds distributed to Members?

Yes.  Distributions are made whenever available funds exceed six-month estimated expenses.

What is your distribution policy?

Members receive 100% of all distributions until each Member has received an amount equal to their total investment, plus twenty-five percent.  Beyond that threshold, Members receive 75% of all distributions and All Play Stable receives 25%.

Total investment = ”The amount paid for your share(s) plus the total of your cash contributions for expenses.”

What about communication?

For each parthership we send an average of ten email messages each month, more when the horses are in training and less when they’re at the farm.  Also, we are always available for ‘horse talk,’ so you can give us a call anytime the spirit moves you.  You can also follow us on Facebook and on our website - www.allplaystable.com.

Will I have race track access?

Yes.  It is a requirement that all Thoroughbred owners be licensed by the state(s) in which their horses are racing.  Your license is a ’pass’ that allows you access to the owners parking lot, and it gets you (and most often a guest) in to the racetracks.  It also allows you foot-access to the backstretch (you’ll have to get a separate permit for your vehicle).  We will help you with this process.

What is your monthly management fee?

No ’management fees,’ per se.  We do reserve the right to charge each Partnership up to $450 per-month to help offset some of our expenses.

What happens when the horses’ racing career is over?

If a colt, and if they were very, very good, they may be retired to stud and perhaps syndicated.  Partners may have the option to stay in the syndicate or sell their share of the horse.  Other horses will be sold at  public auction or perhaps privately.  In some cases they may be given away as riding horses.

Do the Members have a say in Partnership decisions?

We encourage and respect input from our Members, especially in major decisions.  However, because the Manager will at all times be held accountable for the final result, the Manager will make all ‘final’ decisions.

Where do you get your race horses?

We own and breed broodmares and we put their ‘qualified’ yearlings (no unforgivable conformation flaws, no debilitating health issues) into our racing partnerships.  On occasion we also buy horses, most often at auction.  Please See “What We Do.”

Who will train the horses and where will they be racing?

We are currently working with Joe Orseno and Murray Rojas, and recently we have worked with Graham Motion.  A decade or more ago we worked with many trainers, some of whom are among the leading trainers today.  We will continue with that policy.

As to where the horses will race, we will always give primary consideration to racing our horses at tracks that are convenient to our Partners.  Note:  If/When we get that  ‘Big Horse,’ be prepared to travel!

Why should I become a Member of an All Play Racing Partnership?

For the Fun and Excitement.

To meet new people and make new friends.

To experience the character of, and the characters in, Thoroughbred racing.

What are your feelings about gelding colts?

Our policy is to geld our colts a).  as soon as they have proven that they do not possess exceptional talent (in nearly all cases we’ll know this no later than midway through their three year-old year), or b).  the moment they prove un-tractable and thereby unfit to be a racehorse.

Note:  There is no domestic animal in the world with a future more bleak than that of an entire male Thoroughbred retiring from the racetrack and whose record was just ’a little above average’ at best.  Yet a gelding in the same situation can, in most cases, look forward to a happy life as a riding horse.  When we geld them we get more useful racehorses, and we also give them a life after racing.

Are we going to win the Kentucky Derby?

I love the way you’re thinking!   We are going to try like the dickens!

Do you take credit cards?

Yes, we do.
