laffin-place-2

"Laffin' Place" - Ch.c., 2/12/08 (KY). Bowman's Band - Retroesque, by Red Ransom

Meet “Laffin’ Place,” a chestnut colt foaled February 12, 2008 at Foxtale Farm in Nicholasville, KY.  He’s nominated to the Breeders Cup and is KTDF and KBIF eligible. (Photo - June, ‘09).

His sire is BOWMAN’S BAND, Grade-II Stakes winning son of DIXIELAND BAND and winner of over $1.3 million.  Bowman’s Band won or placed in eighteen stakes races including five placings in Grade-I Stakes, and he registered twenty triple-digit Beyer speed ratings during his career.  Laffin’ Place is the second foal from Retroesque, a winning daughter of top Broodmare Sire Red Ransom and Grade-III Stakes Winner VALID BONNET.

The dam of Laffin’ Place is Retroesque, a half-sister to the dam of  “‘BOYS AT TOSCONOVA,” winner of the Hopeful (G-I) and pre-book favorite for the Breeders Cup Juvenile.

On August second, Laffin’ Place ran a teriffic third in a maiden special at Philadelphia Park, coming out of the race with bucked shins.  He’ll be out of action until December, but then, Watch Out!

Here, you’re invited to sing along.  Ready?  ”Everybody’s got a Laffin’ Place, a Laffin’ Place to go, Ho Ho.  Take your frown and turn it upside-down, and you’ll find yours, I know, Ho Ho.”  We send our thanks and an All Play Salute to Walt Disney, to composers Ray Gilbert and Allie Wrubel, and to Br’er Rabbit, who provided the inspiration!

starliner

"Starliner" - Ch.c., 3/22/08 (KY). Johar - Wait 'Til Midnight, by Judge T C

Here’s “Starliner,” a chestnut colt foaled March 21, 2008, also at Foxtale Farm.  He’s nominated to the Breeders Cup and is KTDF and KBIF eligible. (Photo - June, ‘09).

His sire is JOHAR, Multiple Grade-I Stakes winner, multiple track-record setter, Breeders Cup Champion, and winner of nearly $1.5 million.  Johar is by leading sire GONE WEST, out of Champi0n Turf Mare Windsharp, winner of nearly $1.3 million.  Starliner’s dam is Wait ‘Til Midnight, a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade-II stakes placed filly CINDERELLA’S DREAM.

Starliner is now in training with Joe Orseno at Monmouth Park, and we look for him to make his first start in late October.

In racing parlance, any horse that has lots of white markings is said to have ‘plenty of chrome.’  In the 1950’s, the fabulous Studebaker ‘Starliner’ automobile was loaded with chrome.  ‘Nuff said?

These colts are owned by All Play Big Orange, LLC, a sixteen-share racing partnership formed in 2009.  We have high hopes for our Big Orange Dudes!
