We’re given many opportunities to talk about race horse ownership with lots of nice people.  Oftimes they start the conversation by saying, “I want to own a race horse,” or ”You know, Paul, I’ve always wanted to own a racehorse.”  And many times, “With my pocketbook, how can I ever own a race horse?” 

When ’going it alone,’ a person must decide how much money they want to put at risk – not only the cost to  buy the horse, but also the $25-to-$40- thousand dollars needed to keep the horse at the race track for a year.  Offset by horse earnings, yes, but impossible to predict. 

When people learn what it costs to keep a horse in training, many respond with, “Oh, I could never afford a race horse.”  Fair enough.  Maybe not all of a race horse.  But how about a share of one?  Or more.

Thoroughbred racing has what we call the ‘Numbers Game Factor.’   ‘If you own enough of ‘em, sooner or later you’ll get a good one.’  We recommend a share of a couple of horses instead of owning all of one horse.  Good concept? 

You bet.  It’s what enables folks with limited pocketbooks and medium risk-tolerance to take advantage of the Numbers Game Factor.  It’s one of the reason why people become Members of All Play Stable.  They can afford to ‘own’ more than one horse. 

Our partnerships are sensible and, as these things go, inexpensive.  We race good-legged, healthy young horses with mid-level pedigrees; horses whose sires had race records that demonstrated speed, class, and soundness, and whose female families produce high percentages of horses that make it to the races, win races, and win stakes races.

Typically, one share in a partnership is about a six-percent ownership interest, meaning that each partner who owns one share is responsible for six-percent of the ongoing cost.  Example:  A single payment of $2,448 for the share, plus an average of about $300/month for ongoing expenses, would have gotten you a share in our All Play Big Orange Partnership , two terrific two year-old colts that are now in training.
